Ó Séaghdha
Performed as part of BKirk Dance’s Etymology of Being Performance at Base: Experimental Arts + Space
May 9-11, 2025
Choreographer: Shayley Timm
Dancer: Shayley Timm
Music: Jenny of Oldstones by Ramin Djawadi and Discovered in Darkness by Gregory Campbell Johnson
Program Note:
Rooted in Gaelic heritage, "Shay" is an anglicized form of the Irish name "Ó Séaghdha," meaning "hawk-like" and "stately." The name is recognized as both masculine and feminine in nature. In Celtic mythology, hawks often serve as messengers between worlds, said to possess the unique ability to traverse realms. In this work, Ó Séaghdha (pronounced O'Shay) becomes a study in duality— with masculine and feminine identities a constant shift. The story moves fluidly between these energies, carrying insight from one realm to the other.
